Between the looming pine boughs and muddy red soil of Creek County, life is lonely for a seventeen year-old girl. You’d think it would be enough to be haunted by the death of her childhood friend, to be the town pariah and the favorite victim of the most charismatic girl you’ve ever seen. But when her father appears just to tell her he’s crazy, and she might be, too – that’s when the Cricket Man appears.
As problems mount at home and school, and waking nightmares do their best to swallow her whole, she learns that you can never really be sure if Creek County’s monsters are better or worse than the people who live there.
